Are you interested in becoming a trained spiritual director who works with the Asian American Pacific Islander community? Starting in September, I will be leading a two-year certificate program to train spiritual directors with an AAPI focus through Sustainable Faith. While this training will cover the same core skills as a standard spiritual direction training, there will be an additional focus on understanding the AAPI context and the unique perspectives and needs of those with an AAPI background, with insights from theology, psychology, neurology, and cultural studies.
This will be a hybrid cohort that meets for five weekends over nine months: two weekends a year in-person in the Metro NYC/NJ area and three weekends a year online. Together, we will build skills of listening and asking questions that invite reflection, and discernment. We will grow in knowledge of God, self, and others. Through our own experiences of contemplative prayer, thoughtful readings and discussions, and deep spiritual formation, we will become better equipped to help others navigate their own spiritual paths.
